Shanghai 2026: Gea and Mannarino get the French going, a derby with Humbert ahead

At the Shanghai Masters 1000, Arthur Gea and Adrian Mannarino made it through the first round. Gea now faces Ugo Humbert in an all-French second-round clash.

Arthur Gea and Adrian Mannarino are through to the second round of the Shanghai Masters 1000, while three other French players have yet to play their opening match.

Gea turns it around against Faria

Arthur Gea had to dig deep in his first match. After losing the opening set in a tie-break to Portugal's Jaime Faria, the Frenchman took control to win 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-2.

Mannarino through after a retirement

Adrian Mannarino was leading 6-3, 2-2 against Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili when his opponent retired.

Three more French players still to come

Quentin Halys faces Hong Kong's Chak Lam Coleman Wong on Wednesday. On Thursday, Valentin Royer takes on Paraguay's Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, and Luca Van Assche meets China's Bu Yunchaokete.

A Gea-Humbert derby in round two

The draw has set up an all-French clash: Arthur Gea will face Ugo Humbert, who enters the tournament directly in the second round. Adrian Mannarino, meanwhile, will take on Italy's Flavio Cobolli.
