Arthur Gea got the better of Ugo Humbert, while Mannarino, Halys and Fils also came through the second round. On the predictions side, Mannarino caught out 80% of predictors.

A strong showing for French tennis in Shanghai: Arthur Gea, Adrian Mannarino, Quentin Halys and Arthur Fils are all through to the third round of the Masters 1000.

Gea wins the derby

The all-French clash went Arthur Gea's way. On Friday he beat Ugo Humbert 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, taking clear control of the deciding set.

Mannarino defies the predictions

Adrian Mannarino knocked out Italy's Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, a result few predictors saw coming.

Halys turns it around against Blockx

A set down against Belgium's Alexander Blockx, Quentin Halys snatched the second set in a tie-break before winning 4-6, 7-6(9), 6-4. He had beaten Chak Lam Coleman Wong in the first round (6-4, 7-6(5)).

Fils in control

In his opening match on Saturday, Arthur Fils beat Pavel Kotov 6-3, 6-4.

Royer and Van Assche out early

Valentin Royer and Luca Van Assche did not get past the first round: Royer lost 6-3, 6-1 to Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, and Van Assche 7-6(3), 6-3 to Bu Yunchaokete.
